It was to celebrate singles the way we celebrate couples on Valentine's Day. It should be a day unto itself, far from other holidays. It should celebrate the individual, because that is a worthy institution.

Individuals do amazing things. In fact, I would argue that some of the world's greatest achievements stem from the sheer will of individuals. Gandhi. Churchill. Einstein. Jobs. Yes, they all had help and support. But it was their independent spirit that led the charge.

So to all the single individuals out there, keep searching for yourself. Find the best you. And in the process, love yourself for just being you. That alone is special. at 10:01PM, EST, we will toast the one and only you.
